Ian Rutledge en Jujuy: El itinerario de un marxista en la historiografía provincial de los setenta

Abstract

El presente artículo pretende realizar un balance y crítica historiográfica de una obra pionera en la historiografía de Jujuy, El desarrollo del capitalismo en Jujuy, 1550-1960? de Ian Rutledge. Defendido originalmente como tesis doctoral en 1973 y editado en castellano en 1987 marcó un momento en la forma de hacer historia en Jujuy, ya que abordó un tema central como la agroindustria azucarera y el desarrollo del capitalismo. Aquí pretendemos introducirnos en su arquitectura conceptual, delimitando los debates de la época con los cuales se enfrentó el autor y las críticas posteriores.

The following article attempts to make a historiographic balance and criticism of a pioneering work about Jujuy’s historiography: The development of capitalism in Jujuy, 1550 - 1960 by Ian Rutledge. In 1973 Rutledge’s book was defended as a doctoral dissertation but in 1987 was edited in Spanish and marked a defining moment in the history of Jujuy since it approached topics of coral importance such as the sugar agroindustry and capitalism’s development. The article’s aim is to get the readers into the author’s design of knowledge within the different points of view of the time and the subsequent criticism.
