dc.description.abstract
dc.description.abstract
Given the current regional context of re-alignment of neoliberal countries in Latin America, the following article aims to question the legitimacy of this model to guide public policies of social protection. For this purpose, it is hared the neoliberal experience of the Retirement System of Chile that began in 1981, with the end of the Public Distribution System and the establishment of the Individual Capitalization System and private administration, imposed in the dictatorship and which is still in force. From this, we will try to show some contradictions with which the system operates: on the one hand, the individual capitalization and investment of pension savings in the financial system has proven to be a mechanism of concentration of wealth that has deepened the problem of vulnerability in old age, the time that it has granted enormous profits to the market of the administrators. On the other hand, it will be expose the facts that in recent years show an exponential rejection of the Chilean retirement system, where the majority of citizens have expressed themselves against, raising the request to the State to end the Private Pension System.
