“Elephas tantum capit elephantem”: Lutero y Erasmo se agotan la paciencia. Comentario crítico y testimonio epistolar

Abstract

En este trabajo presentamos la traducción al castellano, acompañada del texto latino original, de las cartas de Martín Lutero (1483-1546) a Erasmo de Rotterdam (1469-1536) y las de éste último al primero. Se trata de cinco epístolas, dos de Lutero (1519 y 1524) y tres de Erasmo (1519, 1524 y 1526), que, en conjunto, dan cuenta de la tensa relación entre estos dos gigantes de principios del s. XVI. Las cartas no solo están, en cada caso, prologadas y anotadas, sino también contextualizadas.

In this paper we present the translation into castilian, accompanied by the original latin text, from the letters of Martin Luther (1483-1546) to Erasmus of Rotterdam (1469-1536) and the latter to the first. It is about five epistles, two of Luther (1519 and 1524) and three of Erasmus (1519, 1524 and 1526), which, taken together, reveal the tense relationship between these two giants of the early s. XVI. The letters are not only, in each case, prologued and annotated, but also contextualized.
