El problema de la subjetividad en la obra de Walter Benjamin: consciencia y rememoración

Abstract

Al abordar la crítica de Walter Benjamin al concepto de historia se antepone un interrogante en relación con el rol del sujeto y las posibilidades para la transformación del presente. En la obra benjaminiana, la subjetividad es, por momentos, vinculada al inconsciente colectivo (tal la influencia de S. Freud); en otras ocasiones, a la toma de consciencia marxista (tal la herencia de G. Lukács); finalmente, a la idea de la rememoración (Eingedenken). Sirviéndonos de la teoría temprana del conocimiento en la obra de Benjamin, buscaremos iluminar la aparición del concepto de “rememoración” en los trabajos tardíos. Sostendremos que esta noción contiene el problema de la subjetividad en el nuevo contexto teorético

The approach of Benjaminian criticism to the concept of history is linked to a question about the role of the subject and the possibilities for the transformation of the present. In Benjamin’s work, subjectivity is, sometimes, connected to the collective unconscious (through the influence of S. Freud); on other occasions, to the Marxist awareness (through the inheritance of G. Lukács); finally, to the idea ofremembrance (Eingedenken). Studying the early theory of knowledge in Benjamin’s work, we will seek to illuminate the emergence of the concept of “remembrance” in late works. We will argue that this notion contains the problem of subjectivity in the new theoretical context.
