Estudios y otras prácticas intelectuales latinoamericanas en cultura y poder

Abstract

Una de las dos líneas principales de argumentación de este texto gira en torno a la idea de “prácticas intelectuales”. Con ella la propuesta es cuestionar el “sentido común” resultante de la hegemonía que la institucionalidad académica y las industrias editoriales han venido ejerciendo sobre la representación de la idea de “intelectual”, así como poner de relieve la existencia e importancia de la amplia diversidad de formas que asumen las “prácticas intelectuales”, es decir aquello que los intelectuales hacen/mos. La otra línea descansa en el par conceptual “cultura y poder”. Al nombrar este par, por un lado, se procura referir la reflexión anterior específicamente a un cierto conjunto de prácticas en particular, y por otro, buscar poner de relieve la importancia social de este conjunto particular de prácticas, las que se articulan en torno a lo cultural (simbólico social) en lo político y a lo político (de poder) en lo cultural. Por otra parte, de manera complementaria, en este texto también se presenta una crítica de la idea de “Estudios Culturales Latinoamericanos”, la cual se centra fundamentalmente en el uso descontextualizado y descontextualizante en América Latina de la idea de “Cultural Studies” proveniente de tradiciones intelectuales angloparlantes.

One of the two main lines of argument in this text revolves around the idea of “intellectual practices.” With it the proposal is to question the “common sense” resulting from the hegemony that academic institutions and publishing industries have been exercising on the representation of the idea of “intellectual”, as well as highlighting the existence and importance of wide diversity in ways that assume “intellectual practices”, that is what intellectuals do. The other line rests on the conceptual pair “culture and power.” When naming this pair, on the one hand, it is sought to refer the previous reflection specifically to a certain set of practices in particular, and on the other, to seek to highlight the social importance of this particular set of practices, which are articulated around the cultural (symbolic social) in the political and the political (of power) in the cultural. On the other hand, in a complementary way, this text also presents a critique of the idea of “Latin American Cultural Studies”, which focuses primarily on the decontextualized and decontextualizing use in Latin America of the idea of “Cultural Studies” from Anglophone intellectual traditions.
