Sistemas, sociología y constructivismo en el debate entre Maturana y Luhmann por la autopoiesis

Abstract

Este trabajo busca comparar la conceptualización de la autopoiesis entre Humberto Maturana y Niklas Luhmann. Para ello analizamos convergencias y diferencias en sus definiciones y en el tratamiento de los sistemas sociales; luego, estas son ubicadas en el contexto más amplio de una disputa acerca de lo que se entiende por lo social, y de allí por el sentido de la sociología como una disciplina científica; finalmente, llevamos estas consideraciones al terreno de la epistemología donde, a pesar de haber algunas coincidencias en materia de posiciones filosóficas, la posibilidad de tratar a los sistemas sociales como observadores, marca el direccionamiento diferencial que toman sus constructivismos. Nuestra hipótesis es que la distancia que se observa entre ambos autores responde a consideraciones epistémicas y pre-teóricas del orden de los intereses y los supuestos que condicionan la tarea de la ciencia, las concepciones valorativas y los compromisos éticos acerca de lo humano y lo social.

In this paper we seeks to compare the conceptualization of autopoiesis between Humberto Maturana and Niklas Luhmann. First, we analyze convergences and differences in their definitions and in the treatment of social systems; then, we move to the broader context of the dispute about what is meant by the social, and hence the goals of sociology as a scientific discipline; finally, we take these considerations into the field of epistemology where, despite having some coincidences in terms of philosophical positions, the possibility of treating social systems as observers, marks the differential direction taken by their constructivist programs. Our hypothesis is that the distance observed between both authors responds to epistemic and pre-theoretical considerations related to their interests and particular view on science, including value conceptions and ethical commitments about the human and social.
