Resumen
Monepantel (MNP) is a novel anthelmintic drug with a distinctive mode of action. MNP is active against a variety of multidrug resistant gastrointestinal (GI) nematodes. The characterization of the concentration profiles atteined at specific GI sites of parasite location and the establishment of the relationship between their plasma and gastrointestinal content/tissues availabilities is relevant. Also, the comparative metabolic stability in this organ is necessary when novel compounds are launched for enteral administration in rumiants. The pharmacological interactions obtained after the concomitant administration of MNP with other anthelmintics were also evaluated. The current review described an integrated pharmacological assessment of MNP in sheep and cattle.
