La sangre revolucionaria: Fotografía y muerte violenta en el órgano oficial del Movimiento 26 de julio (Cuba, 1959-65)

Abstract

El artículo analiza una fotografía publicada en el periódico cubano Revolución, ligada a la muerte de un miliciano por los bombardeos que preludiaron la invasión a Playa Girón (abril 1961). El trabajo consideró diversas fuentes de época y se orientó a responder por qué y para qué se exhiben y circulan fotografías sobre violencia en una sociedad. Así, se examinó la matriz interpretativa de las muertes en combate, los valores asociados a estas, los vínculos entre la muerte individual y la vida colectiva en la conformación de la comunidad revolucionaria.

The article analyzes a photograph published in the Cuban newspaper Revolución, linked to the death of a militiaman due to the bombings that preluded the Bay of Pigs invasion (April 1961). The work considered different sources of that time and was aimed at answering why photographs on violence are shown and circulated in a society. In this way, it examined the interpretive framework of deaths in combat, the values associated with them, the links between individual death and collective life in the conformation of the revolutionary community.
