Retornos desviados al desierto y al río decimonónicos en Las aventuras de la China Iron

Abstract

En la novela Las aventuras de la China Iron (2017), de Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, encontramos los recursos de la especulación y de la parodia como centrales en la revisión de los traumas del pasado. El novum en esta novela es el “retorno” a los cronotopos más relevantes del imaginario decimonónico: el desierto y el río. Este novum se da como un movimiento especulativo de retorno y avance en simultáneo, en la forma de un loop temporal, y permite la apertura a acontecimientos que nunca ocurrieron en la historia real, es decir, que apela al recurso del desvío contrafáctico o ucronía. Los ejes que elegimos para analizar el tratamiento de los espacios en la novela son los elaborados por Henri Lefebvre, y presentan un marco teórico mixto porque abrevan tanto de la filosofía como del urbanismo y la arquitectura.

In the novel Las aventuras de la China Iron (2017), by Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, we can find speculation and parody as the main strategies to revise traumas from the past. The novum in this novel is the “return” to the most relevant chronotopes of the national imagery of the 19th century: the desert and the river. This novum appears as a speculative movement of return and advance at the same time, in the form of a time loop, and allows the possibility of a series of happenings that never occurred in reality, thus, it generates a counterfactual deviation, also known as uchronia. The vectors that we will follow to analyze the treatment of spaces in the novel are those elaborated by Henri Lefebvre, and they present a mixed theoretical frame because they derive not only from philosophy but also from urbanism and architecture.
