Percibir y resistir los estigmas: Un estudio sobre la cotidianeidad de personas en situación de calle

Abstract

El siguiente artículo trata sobre la configuración de estereotipos y estigmas en torno alas personas que viven en las calles y otros espacios públicos de las ciudades. Se deriva de unainvestigación que ha focalizado en el estudio de la vida cotidiana de dichos sujetos sociales en laciudad de Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina). La presencia de figuras que por su andar permanente ysu aparente ociosidad parecieran escapar de las normas socialmente establecidas puede rastrearseen diversos contextos socio-históricos. Si bien cada uno de ellos presenta particularidades,consideramos que los prejuicios sobre las actuales personas en situación de calle se hanconstruido históricamente. Asimismo, la irrupción contemporánea en las áreas centrales de lasciudades no solo da cuenta de las profundas desigualdades sociales, sino que pone en cuestiónquiénes son los usuarios legítimos de las mismas. Recuperar los sentidos que adquiere para lospropios sujetos el ser observado por encontrarse en esta situación, permite dar cuenta de losmodos en los cuales se percibe y, también, se resiste el estigma.

The following article is about the conformation of stereotypes and stigmas around people who live in the streets and other public spaces in the city. It is derived from an investigation that has focused on the study of the daily life of these social subjects in the city of Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina). The presence of figures that, due to their permanent wondering and their supposed idleness seem to escape socially established norms, can be traced in various socio-historical contexts. Although each one of them has different particularities, we consider that the prejudices about the current people in street situations have been built historically. In addition, the contemporary irruption in the central areas of the cities not only accounts for the deep social inequalities, but also calls into question who are the legitimate users of them. Recovering the senses acquired by the subjects being observed for being in this situation, allows us to account for the ways in which the stigma is perceived and resisted.
