Diálogos transatlánticos de la resistencia: Denuncia artística y redes de solidaridad con el Cono Sur en los primeros ochenta

Abstract

Tras la serie de golpes de Estado que inauguraron el último período de dictaduras en el Cono Sur, la solidaridad se intensificó en el extranjero, articulando activismo local con asociaciones de exiliados de diferentes países. En íntimo vínculo con la situación de los artistas conosureños, surgió L’Association Internationale de Défense des Artistes victimes de la répression dans le monde (AIDA) en 1979 en París, extendiéndose rápidamente a distintas ciudades europeas y a Washington. El objetivo de la asociación era denunciar, desde diversos puntos de los países centrales y a través de acciones artísticas, la violencia sufrida por artistas de todo el mundo. Enfocándonos en su surgimiento, restituiremos los primeros contactos establecidos en el Cono Sur y la manera en la que circularon actores, información y símbolos en relación a AIDA. El artículo demuestra que, basándose en la solidaridad artística y asumiendo una estrategia internacionalista, AIDA sostuvo iniciativas de resistencia en el Cono Sur, cooperando con diversos organismos humanitarios y de afectados en la defensa de derechos humanos en esa región.

After the series of coups d’état that inaugurated the last period of dictatorships in the Southern Cone, solidarity intensified abroad, articulating local activism with associations of exiles from different countries. In close connection with the situation of the artists from that region, the Association Internationale de Défense des Artistes, victims of the repression dans le monde (AIDA) was founded in 1979 in Paris, spreading rapidly to many European cities and to Washington. The association’s objective was to denounce, from different points of the central countries and by artistic actions, the violence suffered by artists all over the world. Focusing on the beginning of AIDA, this article will reconstruct the first contacts established in the Southern Cone and the ways actors, information and symbols related with AIDA circulated. This article aims to show that, based on artistic solidarity and on an internationalist strategy, AIDA supported resistance initiatives in the Southern Cone, cooperating with various victims and humanitarian organizations in the defense of human rights in that region.
