¿Cómo se narra la violencia?: Las representaciones en torno a la confrontación en la orden de los menores

Abstract

La relación entre violencia y religión es, de alguna manera, intrínseca al medioevo, ya que en todos los aspectos de la vida medieval tenía un rol preponderante la Iglesia. Ahora bien, ¿cómo se representa la violencia en las documentaciones del mundo eclesiástico?, ¿qué modelos, metáforas o instrumentos se ponen en juego a la hora de describir una situación que pudo ser traumática? El objetivo de este aporte es realizar un relevamiento de las situaciones que representan la violencia extrema entre frailes, analizar los dispositivos narrativos a los que recurre el autor para incorporarlas, a su vez que ponerlas en diálogo con otras fuentes para determinar el grado de veracidad de las mismas. Esto se realizará, principalmente, a través de la Historia septem tribulationum, la obra más famosa de fray Angelo Clareno, redactada hacia inicios del siglo XIV, que reconstruye la historia de la congregación.

The relationship between violence and religion is, in some way, intrinsic to the Middle Age, since in all aspects of medieval life the Church had a preponderant role. Now then, how is violence represented in the documentation of the ecclesiastical world? What models, metaphors or instruments are put into play when describing a situation that could be traumatic? The aim of this contribution is to carry out a survey of the situations that represent extreme violence among friars, to analyze the narrative devices used by the author to incorporate them, at the same time to put them in dialogue with other sources to determine the degree of veracity of the same. This will be done mainly through the Historia septem tribulationum, the most famous work by Angelo Clareno, written towards the beginning of the 14th century, which reconstructs the history of the order.
