dc.description.abstract
The articulation of expert voices and mainstream media at the local and transnational level, sup-ported in part by funding flows and foreign assistance, can play an important role in political processes in Latin America. Today, it's difficult to challenge the reigning negative consensus surrounding the presence and actions of progressive governments in the region. This pervasive consensus forms a kind of common sense that ends up associating progressive governments with anti-democratic practices.
