Evangelizar, celebrar y emplazar la cruz: Análisis de las “actividades del habitar” de la Compañía de Jesús en Uquía (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy, Rep. Arg.) en el siglo XVII

Abstract

En este trabajo analizamos cómo se encarnaron en el paisaje de la Quebrada de Humahuaca los encuentros e interacciones entre la cruz, los sujetos y los sitios en el marco de las misiones jesuíticas durante el siglo XVII. A partir de la perspectiva del “habitar” de Ingold (2000) desde la cual el paisaje es concebido como una obra en permanente construcción que se estructura en el ensamblaje de distintas “actividades del habitar”, delimitamos y exploramos tres actividades que tuvieron como centro a la cruz: “evangelizar con la cruz”, “celebrar la cruz” y “emplazar la cruz”. Para ello relevamos un corpus de discursos escritos eclesiásticos (Cartas Anuas, 1672-1675; del Techo, 1897 [1673]; Lozano, 1941 [1733]; Vergara, 1932, 1965) y visuales (pinturas, cartografía y arte rupestre).

In this work we analyze how the encounters and interactions between the cross, the subjects and the sites within the framework of the Jesuit missions carried out during the 17th century are embodied in the landscape of the Quebrada de Humahuaca. From the perspective of the “inhabit” of Ingold (2000), from which the landscape is conceived as a work in permanent construction structured in the assembly of different “taskscape”, we delimit and explore three activities whose center was the cross: “evangelize with the cross”, “celebrate the cross” and “place the cross”. For this, we review a corpus of ecclesiastical written discourses (Letters Anuas, 1672-1675; del Techo, 1897 [1673]; Lozano, 1941 [1733]; Vergara, 1932, 1965) and visuals (paintings, cartography and rock art).
