Una revisión crítica del concepto “Estado terrorista”

Abstract

En 1983, cuando la última dictadura militar argentina estaba terminando, Eduardo Luis Duhalde acuñó el concepto “Estado terrorista” para caracterizar al nuevo modelo represivo creado la dictadura. Este concepto (y su término emparentado “terrorismo de Estado”) trascendió los años y las fronteras: hoy es un vocablo central en las disputas por el sentido del pasado reciente. Estas disputas han opacado el debate sobre la utilidad del término como herramienta teórico-metodológica. A más de 30 años de su creación, ¿qué potencialidades y límites tiene el concepto para caracterizar las formas de la violencia estatal en la última dictadura militar? Este artículo busca responder esta pregunta reseñando los principales elementos del debate actual sobre las formas de periodizar y caracterizar la violencia estatal en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Luego, se reseñan las principales críticas formuladas al concepto “Estado terrorista” y, atendiendo a ellas, se propone una relectura del término.

In 1983, when the last Argentine military dictatorship was ending, Eduardo Luis Duhalde created the concept “terrorist state” to characterize the new repressive model created by the last dictatorship. This concept (and its term related state terrorism) transcended the years: today it is a central word in disputes over the meaning of the recent past. These disputes have overshadowed (and sometimes muddied) the debate over the potentiality of the term as a theoretical-methodological tool. More than 30 years after its creation, what potential and limits does the concept have to characterize the forms of state violence in the last military dictatorship? This article seeks to answer this question by reviewing the main criticisms received for this concept and proposing a rereading of the term.
