Materias y suelos activos en Cujo de Nuno Ramos

Abstract

Este artículo propone indagar los modos en que Cujo (1993) experimenta con la materia, lo mineral, el fósil, el suelo y lo vegetal como procedimientos de escritura. En el contexto de implantación definitiva del neoliberalismo en el Cono Sur, que conlleva una nueva ampliación de la frontera extractiva hacia cuerpos y suelos –en particular sus estratos subterráneos y materialidades–, las materias y suelos actuantes que presenta esta primera publicación de Nuno Ramos interrogan sobre los marcos ontológicos que hacen visible y enunciable la vida y lo viviente y, en contrapartida, lo no vivo, lo muerto y lo inerte. Ensayan, así, un contrapunto a su destino –aparentemente incuestionable– de devenir “recurso ñatural”: explotable, capitalizable y redituable.

This article aims to contribute to the debate surrounding “new materialisms”. It points to the first publication of Brazilian writer and artist Nuno Ramos. In particular, the ways in which Cujo (1993) experiments with matter, mineral, fossil, soil and vegetable as writing procedures. In the context of the definitive implantation of neoliberalism in the Southern Cone, which entails a new expansion of the extractive frontier towards bodies and soils –particularly, its underground strata and matter–, in Nuno’s writing materials and soils are presented as actants with agency. Thus, they question the ontological frameworks that make visible and enunciable “the life” and “the living” and, on the other hand, the nonliving, the dead and the inert. In this way, they play a counterpoint to their destiny –apparently unquestionable– of becoming a “natural resource”: exploitable, capitalizable and profitable.
