Recursos literarios del exilio en las obras de Ovidio y Jerónimo

Abstract

En este trabajo, nos proponemos relacionar las Cartas de Jerónimo con las Tristes de Ovidio mediante tres variables. La primera es la del género epistolar, sobre el cual plantearemos algunas breves cuestiones conceptuales. La segunda es el lugar desde donde el sujeto poético compone su obra, es decir, el exilio, sea este voluntario o no. La tercera es la intertextualidad con la obra virgiliana. En cuanto a este último punto, nos interesa analizar el tópico de las 'cien bocas', que aparece con profusión en ambos autores. Este tópico recorre toda la tradición literaria latina, desde su origen en el género épico, con un antecedente en la Ilíada de Homero, para referirse a la inefabilidad. Observaremos aquí qué función cumple la inserción del tópico en estas dos obras, en el marco del discurso epistolar del exilio.

In this work, we propose to relate Jerome's Letters to Ovid's Tristia by means of three variables. The first of them is epistolary genre, on which we will raise some brief conceptual questions. The second is the place from where the poetic subject composes his work, that is, exile, whether it is voluntary or not. The third is the intertextuality with the Virgilian work. Regarding this last point, we are interested in analyzing the topos of the 'hundred mouths', wich appears profusely in both authors. This topos goes across the entire Latin literary tradition, from its origin in the epic genre, with a precedent in Homer's Iliad, to refer to ineffability. We will observe here what role the insertion of the topic plays in these two works, within the context of the epistolary discourse of exile.
