La dimensión económica de la lucha antisubversiva de la última dictadura argentina: el lucro en la ESMA

Abstract

El objetivo del siguiente artículo es reconstruir y analizar una trama económica específica del terrorismo de Estado de la última dictadura argentina (1976-1983): las operaciones de lucro que se produjeron dentro de los propios centros clandestinos de detención. A partir del caso del centro clandestino de la Escuela Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA), uno de los más relevantes del dispositivo represivo dictatorial, este trabajo analiza el despliegue de grandes operaciones, como el robo de tierras y el vaciamiento de las cuentas bancarias en el exterior, junto con otras más modestas, como el robo regular de bienes en los momentos posteriores a los secuestros, en favor de los agentes represivos y a expensas de los secuestrados y secuestradas, y sus familias. En concreto, el artículo se pregunta por el lugar que ocuparon estas actividades económicas en el conjunto más amplio de las actividades y lógicas represivas. Como principal hipótesis, el texto sostiene que esas actividades económicas formaron parte de una misma trama y concepción de la lucha antisubversiva y que la dimensión económica no puede entenderse escindida de las prácticas represivas en tanto proyecto político-militar.

The aim of this article is to reconstruct and analyze a specific economic dimension of State terrorism during the last Argentine dictatorship (1976-1983): the for-profit operations that took place in clandestine detention centres. Focusing on ESMA (the Navy Mechanics School), one of the main clandestine detention centres in the repressive system of the dictatorship, this work analyzes the deployment of large scale operations, such as land theft and the emptying of bank accounts abroad, along with other more modest ones, such as the frequent theft of property following kidnappings, which was to the benefit of the repressors and the detriment of the kidnapped men and women and their families. Specifically, the article questions the place these economic activities occupied within the wider picture of repressive logic and activities. Our main hypothesis is that these economic activities were part of the general plot against and conception of the “counterinsurgent struggle”, and that the economic dimension cannot be understood separately from the repressive practices of the political-military project.
