El 40, historia de una generación antivanguardista

Abstract

Los poetas que se historiaron a sí mismos sería una buena definición para la llamada Generación del 40, un grupo tan numeroso como prolífico que pretendió relevar, o más bien prolongar, a los martinfierristas mediante una poesía solemne, elocuente, grave, formal. La revista del mismo nombre podría leerse como el órgano definitivo, o la última tentativa, de esa historización. Con seis números publicados entre 1951 y 1953, El 40. Revista Literaria de una Generación no sólo reproduce poemas de tendencia neorromántica o caracteriza su ideal de lo poético, sino que se ocupa de manera central de delinear los rasgos e historiar el difuso grupo que se había iniciado en la década anterior, bajo el pretexto del recambio generacional y la disputa por cierta noción de vanguardia. Este trabajo se propone analizar las tensiones entre los conceptos de generación y vanguardia que atraviesan la publicación, para comprender las figuraciones de lo poético y el estado de situación del ámbito de la poesía a mediados del siglo XX en Argentina.

The poets that have narrated their own history would be a proper definition for the so-called Generación del 40, a large and prolific group of Argentinean poets. During the 40s, this group sought to relieve, or rather prolong, the martinfierristas through a solemn, eloquent, serious, formal poetry, under the pretext of generational change and the dispute over a certain notion of avant-garde. The poetry magazine El 40. Revista Literaria de una Generación (1951-1953) could be read as the definitive organ, or the last attempt, of this history narration. With six issues published between 1951 and 1953, not only reproduces poems of the neo-romantic tendency and characterizes its ideal of the poetry, but also depicts and tell the story of this diffuse group that had started in the previous decade. This work aims to analyze the tensions between the concepts of generation and avant-garde that run through the publication, in order to understand the figurations of the poetic and the state of the field of poetry in the mid-XX century in Argentina.
