Monoteísmo y oclocracia en Filón de Alejandría

Abstract

Filón de Alejandría defiende el monoteísmo judío frente a las creencias politeístas de los pueblos vecinos en su ciudad natal. Para ello utiliza dos términos extraídos de la filosofía política helenística: monarquía y oclocracia. La primera representa el orden y la legalidad en el cosmos. Por el contrario, la oclocracia es un término que hace alusión a la creencia en una multiplicidad de dioses, la cual trae anarquía y desorden en el mundo. En el presente trabajo se indagará el significado que ambos conceptos adquieren en el tratado La creación del mundo según Moisés de Filón.

Philo of Alexandria defends Jewish monotheism against the polytheistic beliefs of the neighboring towns in its native city. For this he uses two terms drawn from Hellenistic political philosophy: monarchy and ochlocracy. The first represents order and legality in the cosmos. On the contrary, the ochlocracy is a term that refers to the belief in a multiplicity of gods, which brings anarchy and disorder in the world. In the present work the meaning that both concepts acquire in the treatise On the Creation of the Cosmos according to Moses of Philo will be investigated
