Dinámica laboral, migratoria y poblacional en las Islas Malvinas: Un abordaje desde las representaciones mediáticas

Abstract

Este artículo se propone identificar cómo fue representada, mediáticamente, la problemática laboral, poblacional y migratoria en las Islas Malvinas en los años recientes. Para ello, se analizan un conjunto de noticias publicadas por la prensa isleña e internacional: Penguin News, Mercopress y The Guardian, entre 2015 y 2018, cuando se comienza a visibilizar la falta de mano de obra en las islas, el envejecimiento de la población y se buscan modificar algunos procedimientos migratorios. Metodológicamente, se privilegia un abordaje cualitativo, con un enfoque socio-semiótico que permite analizar las interrelaciones discursivas y socio-comunicacionales en los discursos mediáticos, identificando los sentidos sociales que recorren a las nociones de trabajo, migraciones y derechos laborales, entre otros.

This article attempts to identify how labour, migration and population problems in the Malvinas Islands were represented by the media in the recent years. In this way, we analyse news articles published by the island and international press: Penguin News, Mercopress and The Guardian, between 2015 and 2018, when the lack of employment on the islands and the aging of the population began to become visible, and some migration procedures began to be modified. Methodologically, a qualitative approach is favoured, with a socio-semiotic perspective that allows us to analyse the discursive and socio-communicational interrelations in the media discourses, identifying the social meanings that run through the notions of work, migrations and labour rights, among others.
