Análisis mecánico y morfométrico del hueso carpo III del caballo mestizo Criollo Argentino

Abstract

El objetivo del presente trabajo fue estudiar las propieda-des mecánicas y morfométricas del hueso carpo III (C3) del caballo mestizo criollo. Para ello se obtuvieron piezas óseas de 10 especímenes de un frigorífico de la región. Los huesos de la mano izquierda se pesaron y analizaron por técnicas de escaneo óptico 3D que generaron archi-vos estereolitográficos. A partir de ellos se obtuvieron datos morfométricos tales como el diámetro latero-me-dial y dorso-palmar, el volumen total, la superficie de articulación total y el diámetro próximo-distal. Por otra parte, los huesos de la mano derecha fueron sometidos a una prueba de compresión con orientación próximo-dis-tal. Los datos fueron analizados estadísticamente y se encontró una relación lineal entre la superficie del C3 y el volumen (R²=0,95; p <0,0001), así como también, entre la densidad y el volumen, que están linealmente relacio-nados (R2= 0,62; p <0,0001). La densidad ósea es una variable para tener en cuenta para determinar resistencia (R2=0,34; p <0,0001), sin embargo, otros factores tam-bién deben considerarse en la absorción de energía al momento del ensayo mecánico de compresión. No hubo diferencias significativas en la resistencia ante una prue-ba de compresión entre animales hembras y machos. Estos resultados pueden contribuir a estudios clínicos y fisiológicos de las extremidades en equinos.

The aim of the present work was to study the mechanical and morphometric properties of the carpal III bone (C3) of the Creole horse. For this, bone pieces were obtained from 10 specimens from a slaughterhouse in the region. The bones of the left hand were weighed and analyzed by 3D optical scanning techniques that generated stereolithographic files. Morphometric datasuch as the lateral-medial and dorso-palmar diameter, the total volume, the total joint sur face and the proximal-distal diameter were obtained from them. On the other hand, the bones of the right hand were subjected to a compression test with proximal-distal orientation The data were statistically analyzed and a linear relationship was found between the sur face of the C3 andthe volume (R² = 0.95, p <0.0001), as well as between the density and the volume, which are linearly related (R2 = 0.62, p <0.0001). Bone density is a variable to take into account to determine resistance (R2 = 0.34, p <0.0001), however, other factors also must be considered in the absorption of energy at the time of the mechanical compression test. There were no significant differences in resistance to a compression test between female and male animals. These results maycontribute to clinical and physiological studies of the extremities in equines.
