Arqueología marítima histórica en Argentina: Investigaciones de naufragios acaecidos entre los siglos XVII y XX

Abstract

Este artículo presenta un panorama de investigaciones arqueológicas sobre sitios de naufragios históricos en Argentina en base a una selección de siete casos de estudio. Las embarcaciones consideradas son de distinto tipo y se asocian a contextos cronológicos y culturales diversos. La distribución geográfica de los sitios abarca desde el río de la Plata en la ciudad de Buenos Aires hasta el extremo austral de Tierra del Fuego. Se sintetizan los objetivos, la metodología y los resultados obtenidos en cada uno de los casos destacando el aporte de la disciplina al conocimiento del pasado marítimo en el sur del continente americano.

The work presents an overview of archaeological investigations on shipwreck sites in Argentina based on a selection of seven case studies. The vessels considered are of different types and are associated to various chronological and cultural contexts. The geographical distribution of the sites ranges from the La Plata river in Buenos Aires city to the southernmost tip of Tierra del Fuego. The goals, methodology and results obtained in each of the cases are summarized, highlighting the contribution of the discipline to the knowledge of the maritime past in the south of the American continent.
