Luis Bello, el ilustrador de Roberto Arlt

Abstract

El escritor argentino Roberto Arlt comenzó a trabajar como cronista para el diario El Mundo desde el momento mismo de su aparición, en mayo de 1928. En agosto del mismo año su columna dedicada mayormente a la representación de la modernización de la ciudad comenzó a portar el título que le otorgaría reconocimiento en el ambiente periodístico de la época: “Aguafuertes porteñas”. Pero además, durante casi ocho años, estas crónicas fueron impresas en la página del periódico junto a ilustraciones realizadas por uno de los dibujantes de El Mundo, Luis Bello. Frente al vacío de referencias sobre la incidencia que estos dibujos tuvieron en la configuración de la columna, el objetivo de este trabajo consiste en analizar de qué modo estas ilustraciones también formaron parte de las “Aguafuertes porteñas”. Para ello, en un primer momento, se examinarán las características de los dibujos de Bello y sus vinculaciones con el género caricatura para, en la segunda parte del trabajo, indagar cómo el cruce intermedial entre texto e imagen influyó en la composición de las crónicas de Arlt.

The Argentine writer Roberto Arlt began to work as a chronicler for the newspaper El Mundo from the moment of its appearance, in May 1928. In August of the same year his column devoted mostly to the representation of the modernization of the city began to carry the title that would grant recognition in the journalistic environment of the time: “Agua Fuertes porteñas”. But also, for almost eight years, these chronicles were printed on the newspaper page along with illustrations made by one of the cartoonists of El Mundo, Luis Bello. In front of the emptiness of references on the incidence that these drawings had in the configuration of the column, the purpose of this work is to analyze how these illustrations were also part of the “Agua Fuertes porteñas”. To this effect, Bellos´s drawing characteristics will be examined with their links with the cartoon genre, to investigate in the following part of the work how the intermediate crossing between text and image influenced Arlt´s chronicles composition.
