Coproducciones latinoamericanas: Avances hacia la construcción de un espacio cinematográfico regional

Abstract

El artículo presenta resultados de una investigación en curso sobre las coproducciones internacionales en Latinoamérica. Una coproducción es una película realizada por productoras de dos o más países distintos, y es oficial cuando es reconocida por las autoridades cinematográficas de los países intervinientes (por ejemplo, ANCINE y el INCAA), que le dan el mismo estatuto jurídico que a cualquier película nacional. Por otro lado, "la coproducción es una fórmula de colaboración en auge con importantes repercusiones en lo económico y en lo cultural" (CILLER y BECEIRO, 2013, p. 236). En las últimas décadas, en torno a la coproducción han surgido un conjunto de políticas cinematográficas que exceden el tradicional espacio de lo nacional: por un lado, acuerdos bilaterales de coproducción y cooperación; por el otro, políticas de integración regional. Respecto a estas últimas, se destaca el proyecto de la RECAM a nivel MERCOSUR y, fundamentalmente, el del Programa Ibermedia que ha tenido considerables avances en la construcción de un espacio cinematográfico iberoamericano. En este contexto, el mapa del cine en Latinoamérica se ha visto robustecido y más integrado, con países consolidados entre los máximos productores mundiales (como Argentina y Brasil) y otros que comienzan a registrar un nivel modesto pero inédito. El artículo se basa en la compilación de una base de 1024 películas provenientes de seis fuentes oficiales distintas y referidas al periodo 1998-2017. El análisis se centra en su evolución y en la reconstrucción del contexto en el que se emergen.

The article presents results of an ongoing investigation on international co-productions in Latin America. A co-production is a film made by producers from two or more different countries, and it is official when it is recognized by the cinematographic authorities of the intervening countries (for example, ANCINE and INCAA), which give it the same legal status as any national film. Also, “co-production is a booming collaboration formula with important economic and cultural repercussions” (CILLER and BECEIRO, 2013, p. 236). In recent decades, a set of cinematographic policies have emerged around co-production that exceed the traditional national space: on the one hand, co-production and cooperation bilateral agreements; on the other, regional integration policies. Regarding the latter, the project of the RECAM at MERCOSUR level stands out and, fundamentally, that of the Ibermedia Program that has made considerable progress in the construction of an Ibero-American film space. In this context, the map of cinema in Latin America has been strengthened and more integrated, with consolidated countries among the top world producers (such as Argentina and Brazil) and others that begin to register a modest but unprecedented level. The article is based on the compilation of a base of 1024 films from six different official sources and referred to the period 1998-2017. The analysis focuses on its evolution and on the reconstruction of the context in which they emerge.
