dc.description.abstract
This article proposes a conceptual synthesis regarding the manner in which the figure of Saint Martin of Tours was received in the Suebi, Visigoth and Early Medieval Hispania, both from the point of view of the belief raised around him, and the manner in which the literary production made an echo of his image and the work of his hagiographs. For that purpose, I will perform a basic analysis following three branches: the narrative, the liturgical and the one that concerns the relics of Saint Martin present in the region. Those branches will allow to suggest, amongst other things, the different sources that permitted the diffusion of the cult of that Saint and his entry points to the Iberian Peninsula (which are several and attest to the spread of the circulation of readings and ideas in those times). Moreover, I will attempt to highlight how the personality of Martin himself enabled to channel diverse discursive interest, able to assimilate him to other paradigms of early Christianity (in several cases, somewhat forced but cleverly accomplished).
