Catalina de Erauso, un hombre de acción

Abstract

Historia de la Monja Alférez es un texto autobiográfico escrito a comienzos del siglo XVII por Catalina de Erauso, quien, a los quince años escapa del convento donde vivía, adopta nombre y vestimentas masculinas, y se inserta como varón en el mundo social y laboral de su época. Este trabajo realiza un análisis de la Historia que visibiliza los mecanismos discursivos utilizados por el autor para construir un lugar de enunciación que lo represente. A diferencia de otras lecturas que entienden que la Historia pone de manifiesto las máscaras o disfraces masculinos tras los que se esconde una figura femenina, mi propuesta es que, los atuendos, las palabras y las acciones del protagonista no esconden una mujer, antes bien revelan un varón, tal como lo intuía José María de Heredia a fines del siglo XIX.

Historia de la Monja Alférez is an autobiographical text written at the beginning of the seventeenth century by Catalina de Erauso, who, at the age of fifteen, escapes from the convent where she lived, adopts a male name and clothing, and inserts herself as a male in the social and labor world of his time. This work carries out an analysis of History that makes visible the discursive mechanisms used by the author to build a place of enunciation that represents him. Unlike other readings that understand that History reveals the male masks or costumes behind which a female figure hides, my proposal is that the clothes, the words and the actions of the protagonist do not hide a woman, rather they reveal a male, as José María de Heredia intuited at the end of the 19th century.
