El lento desenvolvimiento de la industria textil lanera argentina y la sustitución de importaciones durante la entreguerras, 1914-1939

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el crecimiento de la industria textil lanera argentina y el avance del proceso de sustitución de importaciones durante el período de entreguerras. La industria lanera había surgido en el último tercio del siglo XIX y su crecimiento caracterizó por ser lento y dificultoso. Para 1914, la industria lanera era la subrama textil más importante. En este estudio se sostiene que durante el período de entreguerras la industria fortaleció su presencia en el mercado doméstico. Los años de la Primera Guerra Mundial y la primera mitad de la década de 1920 permitieron un incremento de la producción. Y si bien el sector siguió sometido a coyunturas que favorecieron o inhibieron su crecimiento, a comienzos de la década de 1930 ya había alcanzado un grado importante de sustitución de importaciones. El artículo se detiene en el estudio de los factores que limitaron esta expansión y le imprimieron algunas características básicas a la estructura del sector.

The aim of this article is to analyze the growth of the argentíne textile wool industry and the advance of the imports substitution process during the inter war period. The textile wool industry was the oldest textile branch of the country. From the ends of the XIX century, it had been characterized by its slow and difficult development. In this study it is supported that during the inter war period the wool industry strengthened its presence on the domestic market. The years of the First World War and the first half of the decade of 1920 allowed an increase of the production. Although the sector remained submitted to conjunctures that favored or inhibíted its development, at the beginning of the decade of 1930 it had already reached an important grade of imports substitution.
