Las trampas de la meritocracia: Un recorrido por los problemas más significativos que esconde el merecimiento

Abstract

El artículo se propone deconstruir cierto lugar común que se ha articulado sobre el mérito como el criterio más justo de distribución de recompensas y posiciones en el seno social, para lo que se recorrerá un doble camino. Histórico en primer lugar, por el cual se tratará de detallar sintéticamente la historia de la categoría en el siglo xx, sus antecedentes y su transformación en un principio de legitimación de las desigualdades consensuado e inobjetable. En segundo lugar, teórico, por el cual repasaremos los análisis más lúcidos en torno al concepto; en particular las objeciones que desde la heterogénea familia liberal (familia en donde a priori se supone que tendría mayor aceptación) se han realizado, con el fin de recapitular las distintas dimensiones y problemas que acompañan al concepto.

The article sets out to deconstruct a certain common sense that has been articulated on merit as the fairest criterion for the distribution of rewards and positions within society. To this end, a double path will be followed, first of all, a historical one, by which an attempt will be made to synthetically detail the history of the category in the 20th century, its antecedents, and its transformation into a principle of legitimization of the inequalities agreed upon and unobjectionable. Second, theoretical, by which we will review the most lucid analyses around the concept, in particular the objections that from the heterogeneous liberal family (family where a priori is supposed to have greater acceptance) have been carried out in order to recapitulate the different dimensions and problems that accompany the concept.
