dc.description.abstract
A brain–computer interface (BCI) system employs the electrical signals of the brain of the user to control a device according to the user’s intentions. Thus, the brain activity patterns should be identified by the system and translated into commands. In this chapter the electroencephalogram (EEG) signal processing tools to carry out this task are described. The most relevant techniques of EEG signal preprocessing and processing are addressed, as well as feature extraction and reduction methods and the classifiers algorithms. The chapter tries to give a vision about the procedures used in BCI to obtain relevant and accurate patterns to command a device. At the same time, it exposes other suitable techniques for the signal processing that could also be applied for BCI purposes.
