Atlas de mortalidad de la comunidad autónoma de Extremadura

Abstract

En la actualidad, el término Epidemiología Espacial se utiliza para referirse a las tareas de descripción y comprensión de las variaciones espaciales en el riesgo de enfermedad y las variables relacionadas, ya que el estudio de las características de la mortalidad debe comprender no sólo su distribución por género y edad, elementos tradicionales, sino también el análisis espacial y temporal. Con este trabajo se crearon un sistema informático de almacenamiento y consulta de los datos e indicadores de mortalidad para Extremadura y representaciones cartográficas que los ilustran y que formarán parte del Atlas de Mortalidad de Extremadura. Para ello se han estructurado los datos de defunciones del Servicio de Epidemiología de la Consejería de Sanidad de la Junta de Extremadura, y se ha confeccionado una base de datos que, mediante conexión ODBC, se ha relacionado con un Sistema de Información Geográfica para la creación de los mapas temáticos. Los resultados obtenidos serán de utilidad, no sólo para formular hipótesis sobre las causas que originan las enfermedades, sino también para programar estrategias preventivas con las que hacerles frente.

Nowadays, the term Spatial Epidemiology is used to refer to the tasks of describing and understanding spatial variations in disease risk and related variables, since the study of the characteristics of mortality should include not only its distribution by gender and age, traditional elements, but also spatial and temporal analysis. In this work, it is pretended to create a computer system for storing and consulting the data and indicators of mortality for Extremadura and cartographic representations that illustrate them and which will be part of the Atlas of Extremadura. For this, the data on deaths from the Epidemiology Service of the Health Department of the Junta de Extremadura, have been structured, and a database has been created which, through ODBC connection, has been linked to Geographic Information System software for the creation of themed maps. The results obtained will be useful, not only to formulate hypotheses about the causes that originate the diseases, but also to program preventive strategies with which to deal with.
