Haciendo mujeres: Violencia de género como "crímenes de identidad"

Abstract

En este artículo argumentaré que la violencia de género perpetrada por la dictadura argentina (1976-1983) y en los actuales femicidios en el país, presenta una doble dimensión. Por un lado, una de carácter represivo y particular, pues por medio de dicha violencia se procura el arrasamiento identitario de las víctimas; y, por otro, una dimensión productiva y de género, dado que se pretende producir/definir una identidad de género estable. No solo se mata a las mujeres porque son mujeres, sino que se las mata para producir, para hacer mujeres. En este sentido, los crímenes de poder (Segato) serán caracterizados como crímenes de identidad. La violencia contra un cuerpo particular se dirige a todas las mujeres, a quienes pretende disciplinar, gestionando así una identidad femenina y su consecuente vulnerabilidad. A su vez, los actos violentos son fundacionales del poder masculino y, en consecuencia, la violencia machista también produce identidad masculina.

In this paper I will argue that gender violence in the Argentinian Dictatorship (1976-1983) and in current femicides has two dimensions. One dimension is particular and repressive, since by means of such violence, the victim’s identity is sought to be swept away; the other one is a productive and gender-based dimension, because it is intended to produce/define a stable gender identity. Women are not killed exclusively because they are women, but in order to produce, to make women. In this regard, power crimes (Segato) will be characterized as identity crimes. The violence directed towards a particular body, is in fact directed to every woman, as it aims at disciplining them so as to manage a feminine identity and its consequent vulnerability. In turn, violent acts are foundational to male power and, therefore, gender-based violence also produces the male identity.
