Parir como la institución médica manda: Análisis sociológico del modelo hegemónico de atención obstétrica

Abstract

En el presente artículo, que retoma reflexiones de mi tesis doctoral en ciencias sociales sobre atención de embarazos y partos, presento las dimensiones de análisis sociológicos de la atención obstétrica hegemónica, centralmente intervencionista y medicalizante. Se trata de la problematización de seis dimensiones que permiten interrogar desde la sociología la atención dominante de los nacimientos, señalada como causante de violencias obstétricas e índices de intervencionismo superadores de lo estimado por los organismos internacionales de salud. Se trata de la hegemonía biomédica; la construcción del saber obstétrico experto; la medicalización y patologización del proceso perinatal; la dominancia del enfoque de riesgo reproductivo; la centralidad del trinomio tecnología, productivismo y gestión temporal; y los mecanismos de dominación sobre las mujeres, sus cuerpos y sus procesos –el componente patriarcal.

In this article, which takes up reflections from my doctoral thesis in social sciences on pregnancy and delivery care, I present the dimensions of sociological analysis of hegemonic obstetric care, centrally interventionist and medicalizing. This is the problematization of six dimensions that allow interrogating the dominant care of births from sociology, identified as the cause of obstetric violence and rates of interventionism that are higher than estimated by international health organizations. It is about biomedical hegemony; the construction of expert obstetric knowledge; the medicalization and pathologization of the perinatal process; the dominance of the reproductive risk approach; the centrality of the technology, productivism and temporal management trinomial; and the mechanisms of domination over women, their bodies and their processes - the patriarchal component.
