dc.description.abstract
The lectotypification of the Linnaean name Verbena orubica L. is discussed. Based on thorough study of original material and pertinent literature, a critical review is provided and a lectotype is designated upon a specimen from Clifford herbarium. This material preserves the current application of the name to a species of Stachytarpheta Vahl. A comprehensive background is also presented with the aim of clarifying the geographic origin of the New World species described by Linnaeus.
