El sentido actual de las humanidades y de la idea de humanismo: aportes estéticos y autocríticos

Abstract

Este artículo discute el valor de la enseñanza de las humanidades para la ciencia y para la cultura democrática en general. Primero, sostenemos que la marginación de las disciplinas no productivas en los campos de la educación y la investigación se explica en el marco de la subordinación progresiva del conocimiento, el derecho y el cultivo de la sensibilidad, a la revaluación del capital. Luego, nos enfocamos en las contribuciones de las humanidades desde la perspectiva de la estética, de donde se extraen conclusiones que desafían, por estrecha, la idea convencional del humanismo. Polemizando con una tesis escéptica, destacamos el núcleo autocrítico (emancipatorio) que distingue a las humanidades, y concluimos con una crítica inmanente que, a través de ejemplos concretos y considerando los argumentos desarrollados, propone la extensión y actualización del proyecto humanista.

This paper discusses the value of the teaching of the humanities for science and for democratic culture in general. First, we argue that the marginalization of non-productive disciplines in the fields of education and research is explained in the framework of the progressive subordination of knowledge, the right and the cultivation of sensitivity, to the revaluation of capital. Then, we focus on the contributions of the humanities from the perspective of aesthetics, from which conclusions are drawn that challenge the conventional idea of humanism because it is considered narrow. Polemizing with a skeptical thesis, we highlight the self-critical (emancipatory) nucleus that distinguishes the humanities, and we conclude with an immanent criticism that, through concrete examples and considering the developed arguments, proposes the extension and updating of the humanist project.
