Traducción de los documentos regulativos de la Orden de los Hospitalarios en Tierra Santa

Abstract

La orden de los hermanos hospitalarios fue sin duda uno de los productos más interesantes que nos legó el Reino Latino de Jerusalén. Su enorme crecimiento se debió principalmente a la tarea hospitalaria de atención a los enfermos que sostuvo en su hospital en Jerusalén. El estudio de dicha tarea constituye uno de los aspectos más analizados por los historiadores de la orden. En este sentido, los documentos que regulaban la atención médica desplegada en el hospital son los que más información nos brindan acerca de su modelo de atención hospitalaria. Por esta razón, en este trabajo presentamos la traducción al español de la regla de los hospitalarios así como los estatutos y regulaciones administrativas sobre el tratamiento a los enfermos que tenía lugar en la domus Dei de los hermanos de San Juan. Incluimos al mismo tiempo el análisis de los aspectos más relevantes acerca de la producción original de estos documentos, así como sus ediciones modernas.

The order of the Hospitallers was without any doubt one of the most interesting elements that the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem bequeath us. Its magnificent growth was due mainly to the humanitarian work the order did, taking care of the sick in its hospital in Jerusalem. This is actually one of the most carefully analysed aspects by the historians of the order. The documents which describe the regulations of the medical activity in the hospital are the ones that provide the most comprehensible information about their hospital model. This work includes the Spanish translation of the rule of the Hospitallers and also that of the different statutes and administrative regulations for the treatment of the sick in the domus Dei of the brothers of St John. It also contains an analysis of the most relevant aspects about the original production of these documents and their modern editions.
