Sobre participios y adjetivos. Las construcciones de <verbo + bien + pp/a>

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza lo que hemos denominado construcciones de <Verbo + bien + Participio Pasado/Adjetivo>, abordadas en Bosque 1989 bajo el nombre de «construcciones de participio cognado»: secar los platos bien {secados ~ secos}. A partir de recuperar las discusiones en torno a la resultatividad, la distinción entre las lecturas de manera y resultado y la interpretación de bien como un indicador de grado máximo se propone un análisis de estas secuencias desde un enfoque neo construccionista que da cuenta de dos aspectos: (1) la presencia del constituyente <bien + PP/A> no es responsable de la lectura resultativa en los casos en los que esta lectura está disponible; y (2) las lecturas de manera~resultado no solo se siguen de diferentes posiciones de ensamble en la estructura principal del constituyente <bien + PP/A>, sino también del tipo de proyección cuantificada por bien (Voz* o Place). Las pruebas que se utilizan para avanzar en este análisis permiten identificar de manera clara las diferencias fundamentales entre ambas construcciones y reconocer los niveles de modificación en aquellos casos en los que la forma de participio pasado es la única opción posible.

This paper explores what we have named the <Verb + bien+ Past Participle/Adjective> construction. These structures have been discussed in Bosque 1989 as «cognate participle constructions»: secar los platos bien {secados ~ secos} «to dry the dishes well ~ off». Drawing from the discussions about resultativity, the distinctions between manner and result readings, and the interpretation of bienas an indicator of maximal degree, an analysis of these sequences is postulated from a neoconstructionist approach that accounts for two aspects: (1) the presence of the constituent <bien + PP/A> is not responsible for the result reading where that interpretation is available, and (2) the manner/result readings not only arise from different merge positions in the main structure of the constituent <bien + PP/A>, but also from the type of projection quantified by bien(Voice* or Place). The tests used to advance this analysis allow for the clear identification of the main differences between these constructions and the levels of modification where the past participle form is the only option available.
