El discernimiento de espíritus en los cristianismos periféricos: Modernidades y regulación del poder entre los moqoit del Chaco austral

Abstract

El discernimiento de espíritus ha sido a lo largo de la historia del cristianismo un mecanismo fundamental para el control del acceso al carisma. Su desarrollo ha estado profundamente ligado a los cambios en los modelos eclesiales dominantes en cada período y región. Con el objetivo de aportar nuevas miradas sobre este dispositivo, nos proponemos analizarlo en el contexto de los cristianismos periféricos. Específicamente abordamos cómo este dispositivo teológico toma carne en el caso específico del evangelio moqoit. Para ello nos centraremos en el análisis de la estructura social de las iglesias evangélicas moqoit y el rol en ellas de las interacciones cara a cara. Exploraremos cómo los miembros de estas iglesias resignifican este dispositivo articulándolo con las concepciones moqoit preexistentes sobre los vínculos con las potencias no-humanas; los testimonios sobre la gestión de la salud y enfermedad; la experiencia del culto como espacio privilegiado para la experimentación del gozo y el rol de la experiencia comunitaria. Además, discutiremos el papel desempeñado por los Obreros Fraternales Menonitas y los intentos de regulación de la experiencia de los creyentes moqoit. Finalmente, buscaremos mostrar cómo, en el discernimiento de espíritus, se evidencian los procesos de construcción de uno de los proyectos de modernidad característicos de los moqoit.

The discernment of spirits has been -throughout the history of Christianity- a fundamental mechanism for controlling access to charism. Its development has been deeply linked to changes in the dominant ecclesial models in each period and region. With the aim of bringing new perspectives on this device, we propose to analyze it in the context of peripheral christianisms. Specifically, we will address how this theological device takes shape in the context of the evangelio moqoit. For this we will focus on the analysis of the social structure of the Moqoit evangelical churches and the role that face-to-face interactions have. We will explore how the members of these churches seek to resignify this device articulating it with the preexisting moqoit conceptions about the links with non-human powers; testimonies on health and disease management; the experience of worship as a privileged space for experiencing joy and the role of community. In addition, we will discuss the role played by the Mennonite Fraternal Workers and the attempts to regulate the experience of the Moqoit believers. Finally, we will show how the discernment of spirits shows the social construction of one of the most relevant moqoit modernity projects.
