El Inka en su mínima expresión: un t´oqapu en el arte rupestre de la región de Potosí

Abstract

Recientes trabajos en el área de Manquiri (Potosí, Bolivia) permitieron el registro de un abrigo rocoso (Ayasamana), cuyas paredes albergan numerosas pinturas rupestres (Saavedra, en este Boletín). Se destaca entre estas pinturas la representación de un t´oqapu inkaico, el cual es conocido en la literatura como "llave inka" o "llave andin". Se trata de un diseño hasta ahora inédito en el arte rupestre del espacio surandino, siendo significativa su localización en relación con la explotación de las minas del Cerro de Potosí y otros cerros aledaños. A la luz de este nuevo hallazgo, analizaremos este t´oqapu inkaico tanto en sus aspectos formales como su significancia en el particular contexto regional.

Recent work in the area of Manquiri (Potosí, Bolivia) led to the identification of a rock shelter (Ayasamana) housing numerous cave paintings (Saavedra, in this issue). Among these paintings, there is an outstanding representation of an inka “t’oqapu”, known in literature as “llave inka” or “llave andina”. It is a design that has not been studied for the rock art of the southern Andes, and is significant because of the relationship between its location and the mines and hills around Potosi. In light of these new data, here we analyze this Inka “t’oqapu” both in formal terms and its relevance within the particular regional context.
