Expelled: Fidelity and culture in an Argentinian agricultural cooperative facing the devaluation of the peso 82002-2015)

Abstract

En este trabajo se aborda la descripción y análisis de los procesos socioculturales que acontecieron en torno a la expulsión de asociados de la Unión Agrícola de Avellaneda. Se integraron los conceptos de fidelidad y cultura, junto con aquellos que provienen del análisis organizacional, para estudiar el modo en que operaron en esta entidad solidaria las herramientas culturales ante la expulsión de asociados, debida a la reconfiguración económico-social causada por la devaluación del peso argentino en el año 2002. Se corroboró que los mitos y rituales presentes en documentos escritos y voces, relataban -desde distintas facciones- el mundo de sentidos comunes de las que eran sus necesidades presentes y futuras. Allí radicó el carácter instrumental de la acción, no siempre consciente ni premeditada por todos los productores; pero, que, por eso mismo, resultó eficaz. La apuesta de triangulación metodológica cruzó el uso cuantitativo de distintas fuentes documentales de la entidad y, desde lo cualitativo, en un lugar central, se realizaron entrevistas a distintos integrantes de la citada Unión Agrícola.

The aim of this work is to describe and analyze the socio-cultural processes that took place around the expulsion of associates from the Avellaneda Agricultural Union. The concepts of fidelity and culture, along with those that came from the organizational analysis, were integrated to study how the cultural tools operated in this solidary entity in the face of the expulsion of associates because of the economic-social reconfiguration caused by the devaluation of the Argentine peso in 2002. It was corroborated that the myths and rituals in written documents and voices, related - by different factions - the world of common senses of their present and future needs. This settled the instrumental character of the action, not always conscious or premeditated by all the producers, but for that reason, it was effective. The methodological triangulation crossed quantitative use of different documentary sources of the entity and, interviews to different members of the Agricultural Union were made from a qualitative approach, in a central place.
