dc.description.abstract
Georges Vantongerloo is one of the European artists who probably had the most friends in the Argentine art world. Friendship implies admiration, respect, affection, a kind of spiritual com- munion that materialized not only into the collection of Vantongerloo's works compiled by Ignacio Pirovano (currently housed in the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires), but can also be felt in the relationships between the Belgian artist and a number of artists from the River Plate region. These relationships spanned multiple decades beginning with Joaquín Torres-García, who, like Vantongerloo, was part of the Cercle et Carré movement in Paris around 1930, and con- nected generations of constructivist artists in the River Plate region: Lidy Prati, Tomás Maldo- nado, Alfredo Hlito, Claudio Girola, Víctor Magariños D, Miguel Ángel Vidal, Eduardo Mac Entyre, Gyula Kosice, Gregorio Vardánega and many others.
