Poder, reciprocidad y ordenamiento del cosmos en El Shincal de Quimivil (Catamarca, Argentina)

Abstract

En virtud de la comprensión de las lógicas de ordenamiento andinas, es frecuente la referencia al poder como concepto directriz para comprender la forma de percibir y racionalizar el mundo. Para ello, la ciencia social moderna ha aportado un conjunto de premisas con las cuales poner en discusión este significante, tales como la unidireccionalidad, la asociación positiva entre poder y dominio, su acumulación en la forma de prestigio o la centralidad humana en la toma de decisiones. No obstante, su extrapolación a sociedades con una racionalidad diferente a la occidental no debe ser acrítica. En este trabajo nos proponemos, por un lado, repensar las bases epistemológicas sobre las que construyen las nociones de poder que se aplican a las sociedades andinas. Para ello apelaremos a las nociones de complementariedad, reciprocidad y comunidad. Por otro, discutiremos el poder como flujo de potencias y pondremos el acento en las wakas en tanto entidades que concentran y gestionan estos flujos, con un agenciamiento que permite trascender la dicotomía entre mundo físico y mundo humano. Anclamos esta propuesta en el estudio de la materialidad del sitio inka El Shincal de Quimivil, que exhibe la presencia de entidades poderosas a través de un esquema ordenado de wakas en tres niveles, incluidos unos en otros: en orden creciente, las rocas, el cerro y el sitio.

In order to understand the logic of Andean ordering, power is frequently referred to as the guiding concept to comprehend the way of perceiving and rationalizing the world. To this end, modern social science has provided a set of premises to discuss this signifier, such as unidirectionality, the positive association between power and dominion, its accumulation in the form of prestige, or the human centrality in decision-making. However, its extrapolation to societies with rationality different from Western rationality must be critical. In this work, we propose to rethink the epistemological bases on which the notions of power applied to Andean societies are built. To do this, we will use the notions of complementarity, reciprocity, and community. Also, we will discuss power as a strength flow, and we will emphasize the wakas as entities that concentrate and manage these flows, with an agency that allows transcending the dichotomy between the physical and the human worlds. We linked these theoretical considerations to the study of the materiality from the Inka site El Shincal de Quimivil, which exhibits the presence of powerful entities through a scheme of wakas organized in three levels, included in each other; in increasing order: the rocks, the hill, and the site.
