Los wikileaks “olvidados”: documentos desclasificados del departamento de estado y el derrocamiento de gobiernos latinoamericanos

Abstract

En el siguiente artículo se propone recuperar información secreta del gobierno estadounidense ya desclasificada por diversos organismos oficiales hace varios años, que permite dar cuenta del modo en que ha operado la articulación gobierno de Estados Unidos-sector privado, para garantizar la expansión de los intereses estadounidenses en América Latina. Dentro de este contexto, el trabajo se centrará en la documentación publicada por el Departamento de Estado estadounidense, el National Security Archive y la CIA, que incluye las discusiones, lineamientos y decisiones de funcionarios de Departamento de Estado, de Defensa, del Tesoro, de la CIA y de diferentes representantes del sector privado estadounidense con respecto a los gobiernos de Jacobo Arbenz en Guatemala (1950-1954), Joao Goulart en Brasil (1961- 1964) y Salvador Allende en Chile (1970-1973). El objetivo es indagar, desde un abordaje crítico, el modo de operar de Estados Unidos en la región durante las primeras décadas de la Guerra Fría.

In the following article the proposal is to retrieve classified information of the US government, that has been published by various official organizations during the last decades, and that enables us to know the way in which private and public interests worked together in order to ensure US interests in Latin America. In this context, we will analyze documents published by the United States Department of State, the National Security Archive and the CIA, corpus that includes the guidelines, opinions and decisions of various representatives of the US Departments of State, Defense, Treassury and the CIA, as well as the opinions of influential individuals from the private sector, regarding the democratic administrations of Jacobo Arbenz in Guatemala (1950-1954); Joao Goulart in Brazil (1961-1964) and Salvador Allende in Chile (1970-1973). Following a critical theoretical perspective, the main goal is to figure out and show significant evidence about the way of “doing things” of US government in Latin American during the first decades of the Cold War.
