El materialismo de Hobbes: Prolegómenos para una figuración americana de la soberanía

Abstract

El artículo se propone, en primer término, analizar la figura del soberano en Thomas Hobbes partiendo del vínculo que este autor establece entre la teología y su ontología materialista. Para ello, discute la interpretación, según la cual, el soberano representa y sustituye a la multitud dispersa de ciudadanos despolitizados. En segundo término, parte de esta complejización de la imaginación moderna para individualizar ciertos elementos (como la teoría de la causalidad y la definición de la voluntad) mucho más productivos para interrogar la figuración americana de la soberanía.

This article aims, firstly, to analyse the figure of the sovereign according to Thomas Hobbes based on the link between theology and his materialistic ontology. Thus, will be discussed the interpretation according to which the sovereign represents and replaces the dispersed multitude of depoliticized citizens. Secondly, it is based on the added complexity of modern imagination so as to individualize certain elements, such as the theory of causality and the definition of will, which are much more productive to question the American representation of sovereignty.
