"Nostalgia is a Weapon". Utopías Metropolitanas y Ruralidad Hiperreal

Abstract

Hace más de una década, la cuestión del despoblamiento de las pequeñas aglomeraciones argentinas ha comenzado a ser tematizada en redes sociales y medios de comunicación. En torno de dichas localidades, frecuentemente evocadas como idílicos “pueblos rurales” o como abandonados “pueblos fantasmas”, se ha llegado a configurar un verdadero género (que aquí llamamos “ruralidad hiperreal”) al que diversos actores recurren para representarlas, fotografiarlas, describirlas, dar cuenta de ellas y experimentarlas. A lo largo de este texto procederemos a reconstruir y analizar los repertorios estéticos, identitarios y morales que configuran este género, el cual, aunque tiene por objeto los “poblados rurales”, suele ser movilizado y recreado por personas residentes en áreas “urbanas” y metropolitanas. A partir de nuestra experiencia de campo en aglomeraciones de este tipo, intentaremos, además, poner en tensión las adjudicaciones que este género “rural hiperreal” proyecta sobre poblaciones y pobladores “rurales” con las que estos últimos hacen efectivamente de los lugares en que viven, a los efectos de mostrar cómo y hasta qué punto las nociones metropolitanas sobre lo rural impugnan e invisibilizan las visiones que los propios pobladores de estas aglomeraciones tienen sobre ellas.

More than a decade ago, the issue of the alleged depopulation of small settlements in Argentina began to appear in the media and social networks. As a consequence, a new literary genre has been produced about these settlements, frequently evoked as idyllic “rural hamlets” or abandoned “ghost towns”, and which we call “the rural hyperreal”; the aforementioned genre is mobilized by several actors in order to represent, photograph, describe, account for and experiment them. Throughout this text, we will reconstruct and analyze the aesthetic, identity and moral repertoires that these genre includes; genre that even when it has “rural settlements” as its subject matter is usually mobilized and recreated by urban and metropolitan dwellers. Furthermore, using data from our fieldwork experience in this kind of settlements we will stress the tensions implicit in the relationship between the attributions this genre projects on “rural” settlements and their dwellers and the categories used by the dwellers themselves, in order to show how and to what extent the metropolitan notions of “the rural” contest and invisibilize the visions the inhabitants of these settlements have about them
