En el lugar de las tunas empedernidas": Tenochtitlan en las crónicas mestizas

Abstract

Espacio, ciudad, desplazamiento, viaje han sido ejes fundamentales en los estudios literarios coloniales hispanoamericanos en las últimas décadas. En ese marco, la atención hacia las tradiciones discursivas occidentales, el peso de la retórica, las inflexiones humanistas en la historia y la filología han aportado nuevas miradas a un corpus que, por otra parte, se encuentra en constante expansión. Este trabajo se inscribe en dicha línea, pero propone leer las convergencias y las divergencias que dos crónicas mestizas novohispanas ponen en escena a la hora de narrar una ciudad antagonista: Tenochtitlan. Las obras históricas de Diego Muñoz Camargo y Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl nos permitirán mostrar los cruces entre tradiciones discursivas occidentales e indígenas, las tensiones, los usos del pasado y la representación de una ciudad emblemática como espacio narrativo en el que se inscribe la polémica.

Space, city, displacement, trip have been fundamental axes in the literary colonial Spanish–American studies in the last decades. In this frame, the attention towards the discursive western traditions, the weight of the rhetoric, the humanist inflexions in the history and the philology have contributed new looks to a corpus that, on the other hand, one finds in constant expansion. This work registers in the above mentioned line, but it proposes to read the convergences and the differences that two half–caste chronicles novohispanas put in scene at the moment of antagonist narrates a city: Tenochtitlan. The historical works of Diego Muñoz Camargo and Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl will allow us to show the crossings between discursive western and indigenous traditions, the tensions, the uses of the past and the representation of an emblematic city as narrative space in the one that registers the polemic.
