Resumen
The Chilinidae is comprised of only one genus, Chilina Gray, 1828, which has almost 50 species. The family is endemic in southern South America, including Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, and the Malvinas Islands (Pilsbry, 1911; Castellanos and Gaillard, 1981; Brown and Pullan, 1987). Some records also mention the family in Peru, but that has not been confirmed. Originally the representatives of this genus were within the Auriculidae and Lymaneidae as subgenus and genus, respectively (Gray, 1828, 1847). Dall (1870) created the family Chilinidae, including only the genus Chilina.
