Palabras mojadas: Representación de las pasiones y metáforas acuáticas en Noé de Ambrosio de Milán

Abstract

El tratado Noé de Ambrosio de Milán (ca. 378) reflexiona sobre la condición humana y las consecuencias de las acciones del hombre en el orden natural. El comentarista cristiano expone la vida, costumbres y hechos del patriarca desde una interpretación alegórica de la Escritura y considerándolo como el prototipo del hombre justo y sabio, atravesado por las pasiones pero que logra elegir el camino correcto. El arca es um símbolo del mundo, a partir de la cual se puede comprender el sistema de analogías en el que se fundamenta el texto, ya que también es una imagen representativa del cuerpo y de la persona. Así, el arca es presentada como la condición de los pecadores inestable, corruptible y a merced de los vaivenes del alma, figura que da lugar a un conjunto de metáforas en torno al agua y lo acuático. Nos abocamos al análisis filológico y discursivo de dichas metáforas con la intención de explicitar sus proyecciones simbólicas y sus alcances morales.

De Noe by Ambrose of Milan (ca. 378) reflects on the human condition and the consequences of man's actions in the natural order. The Christian commentator exposes the patriarch’s life, customs and acts since an allegorical interpretation of Scripture and considering him as the prototype of the just and wise man, crossed by passions but who manages to choose the right path. The ark is a symbol of the world, from which it is possible understand the system of analogies on which the text is based, since it is also a representative figure of the body and the person. Thus, the ark is presented as the condition of sinners –unstable, corruptible, and at the mercy of the swings of the soul–, a figure that gives rise to a set of metaphors around water and aquatic issues. We focus on the philological and discursive analysis of these metaphors with the aim of explaining their symbolic projections and their moral reach.
