Fotografía y experiencia de enfermedad: Relatos autobiográficos de dos mujeres con cáncer de mama. Discusiones en torno a lo monstruoso, el deseo y la producción de subjetividad

Abstract

El trabajo presenta algunas discusiones respecto a la vinculación entre fotografía y experiencia de enfermedad y los cruces a su vez con la medicina como dispositivo por excelencia para promover modelos de corporalidad deseables. Fotografía y medicina participan en la configuración de vulnerabilidades, malestares y tensiones para quienes no se enmarcan en tales modelos legitimados y sostenidos por éstos. A partir de relatos fotográficos que tienen como protagonistas a mujeres mastectomizadas, repensamos el lugar de las figuraciones de lo monstruoso. En particular, analizamos los relatos de dos pensadoras, quienes a partir de la experiencia con cáncer de mama y la necesidad de intervención quirúrgica, han puesto en escena e interpelado el lugar de la normatividad. Nos referimos a las puestas de Gabriela Liffschitz y Jo Spence, quienes en diálogo, permiten establecer un contrapunto capaz de orientar la discusión política en torno a los límites de lo humano en términos de normalidad/aceptación social. En el caso de Spence, su puesta invita a repensar el desdibujamiento de la identidad, terrorífica y monstruosa, como puede interpretarse. Esta narrativa de la enfermedad, arremete contra la propuesta de Liffschitz, quien estimula a pensar esta experiencia desde un lugar más cercano a la de sujeto de deseo. Si la fotografía de Spencer narra la fragmentación de la identidad, el horror y el desconcierto; Liffschitz emprende una búsqueda diferente que discute con ciertos cánones hegemónicos. Se produce de este modo un contrapunto respecto a cómo pensar el cuerpo enfermo, su geografía y las posibilidades de intervención.

The paper presents some discussions regarding the link between photography and experience of illness and the crossings with medicine as a device par excellence to promote desirable corporality models. Photography and medicine participate in the configuration of vulnerabilities, discomforts and tensions for those who are not framed in such models legitimated and supported by them. From photographic stories that have mastectomized women as protagonists, we rethink the place of the figurations of the monstrous. In particular, we analyzed the accounts of two thinkers, who from the experience with breast cancer and the need for surgical intervention, have staged and questioned the place of normativity. We refer to the sets of Gabriela Liffschitz and Jo Spence, who in dialogue, allow us to establish a counterpoint capable of guiding the political discussion around the limits of the human in terms of normality / social acceptance. In the case of Spence, his putting invites to rethink the blurring of the identity, terrifying and monstrous, as can be interpreted. This narrative of the illness, attacks the proposal of Liffschitz, who stimulates to think this experience from a place closer to the subject of desire. If the photograph of Spencer narrates the fragmentation of identity, horror and bewilderment; Liffschitz undertakes a different search that discusses certain hegemonic canons. A counterpoint is produced in this way regarding how to think the ill body, its geography and the possibilities of intervention.
