Evaluación de los servicios culturales de recreación y turismo del ecosistema playa en la ciudad de Mar del Plata, Argentina

Abstract

El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el servicio cultural de recreación y turismo en playas del norte de Mar del Plata en dos momentos históricos, antes y después de la remodelación de las estructuras de defensa costera. Se evaluaron los cambios geomorfológicos producidos en el período y se estudiaron los servicios culturales provistos por dos playas en 2003 y 2018. Se compararon 37 indicadores agrupados en 5 tipologías que incluyen todas sus variables (de condición, de función, intermedios de servicio, de beneficio y de impacto). El estudio demostró que las playas registraron un significativo incremento en su capacidad de brindar los servicios ecosistémicos de recreación y turismo y que la mejora en su provisión se debe al incremento del área útil de la playa como consecuencia de la remodelación de las defensas costeras. Las diferencias más notables entre las dos playas estudiadas están ligadas a las tareas de mantenimiento y mejora realizados en la playa concesionada. Los resultados evidencian la necesidad de una gestión sustentable de las playas por parte del estado para que todas las playas públicas mantengan y mejoren su capacidad de proveer servicios.

he aim of this study was to evaluate the cultural ecosystem service of recreation and tourism in the beaches of the north of Mar del Plata in two historical moments, before and after the upgrading of the coastal defense structures. The geomorphologic changes produced during the period were evaluated and the cultural services provided by two beaches in 2003 and 2018 were studied. Thirty seven (37) indicators were grouped into five (5) categories including all their variables (condition, function, intermediate service, benefit and impact). The study showed that the beaches registered a significant increase in their capacity to provide ecosystem services for recreation and tourism, and that such improvement is due to the expansion of the beach usable area as a consequence of the coastal defense upgrading. The most outstanding differences between both beaches are linked to the maintenance and improvement tasks carried out at the franchised beach. The results show the need for sustainable management of the beaches by the Government so that all public beaches maintain and improve their capacity to provide services.
